Orchard Head is an inclusive school, and we believe in equality. We do everything we can to remove any barriers to learning and participation for individual pupils or groups of pupils. In order to do this, we carefully track the progress, attitudes and behaviour of the different individuals and groups of children within our school, including:
- Girls and boys
- Minority ethnic and faith groups
- Children who need support to learn English as an additional language
- Children with additional learning needs
- More-able and talented children
- Children at risk of disaffection or exclusion
- Asylum seekers.
We plan our work under the National Curriculum through teaching that meets the specific needs of individuals and groups of children. We do this by:
- Setting appropriate learning challenges as part of a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum;
- Responding to the diverse needs of the children and providing other opportunities for learning where needed; and
- Overcoming potential barriers to learning and assessment for individuals and groups of pupils.
We focus on educational inclusion by ensuring that:
- All children can achieve their best;
- Children who aren’t achieving their best are identified and appropriate actions are taken;
- Differences in the achievement of different groups of children are identified and challenged;
- We track the effectiveness of our actions;
- We promote racial harmony and prepare pupils to live in our diverse society.
